The Puxley Mansion, located near the site of Dunboy Castle, Castletownbere, Beara Peninsula, County Cork, Ireland. Photographed in 2002 Contax G1 with 28mm Zeiss Distagon & 45mm Zeiss Planar.

The Mansion was built by Henry and John Puxley in 1739. The family prospered from copper mining in the Beara peninsular. In 1921, during the War of Independence, it was believed that the house was likely to fall into the hands of British forces and was burnt by the Irish Republican Army.
The Puxley family were compensated for the destruction of the house and the estate and house were sold to local interests.

The Puxley Mansion lay derelict until a few years after these photographs were taken. Since then restoration work has been undertaken on the Mansion with the intention of opening it as a luxury hotel. However, it appears to have fallen victim to the credit crunch and work on the building stopped in 2010 with reports suggesting that restoration work was 90% complete.
